Perspective(Affirmative)
The perspective of a 就活生(Someone who is job hunting) on why Lookism matters
After a long day of interviews, that’s another company I didn’t got in...
You know, people throw around the word lookism like it’s always negative. And sure, I get it. Judging people purely by appearance can be unfair, and I’d never want that kind of world!
But here’s the thing: I’m in the middle of job hunting. It’s competitive. It’s intense. And the truth?
Every little thing counts.
So if I can take control of how I’m perceived through how I dress, how I carry myself, how I present
I’m going to do it. Because the moment I walk into that room, I am being evaluated. Not just on my words or my resume, but on presence. Posture. Everything.
Some people call that shallow. I call it preparation.
I don’t support judging someone only on looks. But I do believe that visual communication is part of the package. It's a kind of language. When I show up polished and professional, I’m saying: “I take this seriously. I respect you. I respect myself.”
Lookism, when weaponized, can hurt people. But appearance, when chosen and owned with intention? That’s not vanity. That’s strategy. That’s agency. And in a market where thousands of other students are holding the same qualifications, sometimes the way I show up visually is the deciding factor.
I myself strongly agree with the content of this blog. It is said that discrimination based on appearance is very strong in Japan, but I believe that what creates a “positive impression of one's appearance” is not determined by only one's natural body shape or facial structure.
返信削除I believe that if a person wears a hairstyle and clothes that suit his/her natural body shape and face, he/she can create a “positive impression in appearance”.
In other words, in my opinion, one can create a “positive impression of one's appearance” by oneself through one's atmosphere, personality, clothing, etc.(Chiharu)
